Japan's Go to Travel Campaign
The Japanese government has been running “Go To Travel Campaign” since July 22, 2020. The second stage of the campaign is finally starting on October 1. Regional coupons that can be used in Niseko, Hokkaido will be given, so if you're planning a trip, you'll have to take advantage of this campaign! Check out how to apply for it, and how much of a discount you are eligible to receive. This is the summary.
What is the “Go to Travel” campaign?
The campaign aims to stimulate the demand for domestic tourism which has fallen as a result of the spread of the coronavirus. The first stage of the campaign, which started on July 22, has been offering a 35% discount, while the second stage will give you a 35% discount + a regional coupon that can be used during your trip. You can get up to 50% discounts on domestic trips!!
- FIRST STAGE：35% discounts｜till September 30
- SECOND STAGE：35% discounts + regional coupon｜from October 1
Who is eligible?
- Residents of Japan, including foreign residents. Tourists from overseas are not eligible
- Domestic trips only (an overnight trip and a day trip)
- Limitations on Tokyo residents will be removed from October 1
Is there an upper limit?
- 20,000 yen per person per night (14,000 discount + 6,000yen coupons)
- 10,000 yen per day trip (7,000 discount + 3000yen coupons)
- There is no limit on how many trips you can make during the campaign period or on the length of each trip!
How long does the campaign last?
October 1, 2020 - January 31, 2021（or until funds last)
What is a regional coupon?
15% of the travel price will be given as a regional coupon.
- The coupons will be issued in units of 1,000 yen
- No change will be given
- A paper coupon or an electronic coupon
How can I get it?
Book your trip! The coupons will be given directly by the agency or the accommodation from which you booked your trip.
Where can I use it?
The coupons can be used during the period of travel in the destination prefecture and its neighboring prefectures at designated local stores, restaurants, activities, transportation, etc…
※From November 21, food and drink for more than 5 people is no longer allowed with the regional coupons. (Maximum of 4 people)
【The following is exceptions】
・When used by one family living together (parents and children, grandparents and grandchildren, etc.)
・Available for use by 5 or more people, subject to the following conditions;
If it is possible to arrange seating in units of 4 or less, such as by spacing the tables apart or dividing them with acrylic panels
・Elderly and disabled caregivers and pre-school children are not included in the limit
